March 14th, 2021

3/14/2021

March 11th, 2020 was a day of global significance as the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a global pandemic. March 14th, 2020 was also a significant day…for me. It was my last pre-pandemic day of photo sessions. Like many of my photography colleagues – both professional and hobbyists alike – we had to learn to approach our photography differently in a new post-pandemic world. We all came to a complete halt. Many of us worked on other projects, some jumped into the "porch project" phase and others offered online tutorials to new parents on how to photograph their newborns. I myself started learning another form of photography that I've long been drawn to: fine art or painterly (more of that to come in another post)! Wedding photography, of course, was put on hold and many brides and grooms-to-be found themselves in an awful position of rescheduling everything. Family sessions stopped. In-home lifestyle photos stopped and depending on the rules, outside photography stopped. All I could do was photograph for myself, going out and capturing nature.

Initially, I decided to use the lockdown time to catch up on older projects. I take tons of photos for myself; of nature and of my family, but don’t always have time to edit them all. I spent the next few months revisiting older projects and start finishing off photos while in lockdown.

Today is March 14th 2021. As I write this article, I’m also looking back at my work during the lockdown. As I go through all the images I remember how I felt during this last year. Going from boredom, to frustration and worry, anxiety and then hope and so many other thoughts and emotions. It’s been a tough year for many of us, and it’s been tough being creative. And I can only thank my photography and need to be creative to help get me through this time.
