There’s something incredibly special about a wedding that feels effortless, meaningful, and deeply personal. And having the opportunity to photograph this beautiful wedding at Cobourg's City Hall located in beautiful Victoria Hall on King Street in downtown Cobourg is something that I love to do.
And Kuniko and Ark chose the most beautiful venue to say their vows!

The building itself is absolutely beautiful. Those classic stone arches and columns give it such a timeless look creating the perfect backdrop. It’s one of those places where you don’t have to try too hard—the character is already there. Every spot feels like it was made for photos.

Inside, it’s just as lovely. There’s plenty of seating for family and friends, Everyone is close, everyone is part of the moment, and you can really feel that connection during the ceremony.

What stood out most was how simple and personal the whole experience felt. No stress, no over-the-top production—just two people getting married, surrounded by the people who matter most.

The Art Gallery of Northumberland is located upstairs in Victoria Hall where bride and groom formal photos can take place. We were lucky enough to request a bit of time for some outstanding photographs.

That’s what I love most about weddings here—the intimacy. It never feels like a big production. It feels real, relaxed, and meaningful. As a photographer, venues like this are a dream.

A mini session is a shorter, simplified photo session. They typically run about 20 minutes and most often take place on specific dates with a styled setup we’ve created in advance.
You’ll still receive the same professional quality and attention to detail—just in a shorter, more focused experience.

As photographers, mini sessions allow us to create something really special.
We design each setup with intention—whether it’s a fall scene with pumpkins, a Christmas setup, or something fun and unique like our duckling or unicorn sessions. Because everything is prepared ahead of time, we can focus fully on capturing genuine smiles and real moments.
Mini sessions also give families the chance to come back year after year, capturing memories as your children grow.

When a snowstorm hits and the world outside slows down, I hunker down and dive into the creative heart of my work: the editing process.

This is where the magic happens! While Jenn and sometimes Justin shoot sessions for CatsMac Photography, I (Cathy) am the one who is behind the scenes doing all the other work involved in keeping a photography business going (and yes, I do photograph sessions as well. My workflow is built around productivity by using a dual-monitor setup that allows me to maximize my creative space.

Monitor One (Left): The Creative Canvas. I use this screen for intensive editing in Photoshop. With a large, color-calibrated display, I can zoom in on the details, adjust tones, and ensure every image is perfected.
Monitor Two (Right): Connection and Context. The second screen is essential for communication, organization, and sharing. It’s where I manage client emails, organize sessions, and prepare content for social media platforms. I can seamlessly transition from editing the images to creating preview gallery for my online presence for my clients and followers.

From Capture to Share - The process doesn't end when the shutter clicks. My setup ensures a smooth transition from a raw file to a finished product ready for clients. It’s about creating an efficient and enjoyable experience, even when the weather outside is wild!

Some of my favourite images aren’t technically perfect at all. They’re the ones where the moment was real, the story was unfolding, and the emotion was impossible to fake. A little blur, a little grain, a little imperfection… sometimes that’s exactly what makes a photo feel alive.

This beautiful new arrival holds the special title of being the very first baby born at the Northumberland Hills Hospital in Cobourg this year! It was an honor to document their arrival not in a studio, but right where their journey as a family begins: their home.

Baby's Natural Rhythm: I work entirely around your newborn's schedule. There's no rushing, only patience, allowing the baby to feed, sleep, and just be in their natural environment. The result is relaxed, happy photos that reflect the reality of those precious first days.
Comfort & Ease: Parents can relax, change outfits easily, and use the nursery for feedings without stress. The images capture you exactly where you spend most of your time—cuddling on the couch or rocking in their new room.

The golden rule of winter photography is layering. This isn't just about staying warm; it adds wonderful dimension and texture to your photos.

Visible Layers: Add insulating mid-layers like chunky knit sweaters, cardigans, or flannel shirts. A stylish outer layer, such as a sharp wool coat or a structured puffer jacket, can be a great focal point and easily removed for variety.
Hidden Layers: Start with a thin, moisture-wicking base layer, like thermals or fleece-lined tights, which can be easily hidden under your main outfit without adding bulk.

With a neutral background of snow and bare trees, you can't go wrong with either classic neutrals or a rich pop of color.

Color Palette / Description / Why it Works
Cozy Neutrals Creams, beige, charcoal gray, and tan. Timeless, elegant, and keeps the focus on your family's faces.
Jewel Tones Deep burgundy, forest green, navy blue, and mustard yellow. These rich, vibrant colours offer a beautiful contrast against a snowy landscape.
Plaid Accents Incorporate classic plaid in scarves or shirts, using the colours from the pattern to guide the rest of the family's solid-coloured outfits. Adds visual interest without being overwhelming.
Avoid overly bright or neon colours, as they can be distracting and unflattering.

don't forget accessories and footwear

Accessories are both functional and fashionable in winter photos.

Accessories: Hats, scarves, gloves, and mittens add personality and can be easily swapped in and out for different looks. A cute blanket can also serve as a cozy prop.
Footwear: Choose practical, warm, and waterproof boots that are comfortable for walking in the snow. Knee-high or ankle boots are great stylish options that work well with thick socks hidden underneath.

Ultimately, the most important tip is to wear something that makes you feel confident and comfortable. When you feel good, you look good, and those genuine emotions translate beautifully into timeless photographs.

We had planned for a late-fall shoot, knowing the earthy tones, tall grasses, and quiet pathways would make a lovely natural backdrop. What we didn’t plan for was the weather surprising us in the best possible way. Just as we began, soft flakes started to fall—gentle, sparkling, and completely magical.

Our property always offers beautiful spots to explore, but on this day the pathways, trees, and tall grasses became the perfect frame for this couple’s connection. The snow added just the right touch—subtle, serene, and uniquely meaningful for them.

Picture this: a big white wooden box, 4 feet by 4 feet, where the magic happens! During your session, we’ll have you, your kids, or even your family dog sit, stand, or play inside the box as we capture a variety of fun poses. We’ll mix in festive props — think Christmas trees, gifts, lights, ornaments, and cozy winter touches — to bring your photos to life.

Each person or pet gets their turn to shine, and after the session, we use a bit of Photoshop magic to combine your favourite shots into one creative collage — a series of moments that come together to tell your family’s story in a playful, whimsical way.

Each session includes a variety of poses and props, and your final collage is carefully edited to create a stunning keepsake — perfect for printing, framing, or sharing with friends and family.

We had the place to ourselves

Because Geoff works at the Lift Locks, we had access to areas that are usually off-limits, which made the whole session feel a little like we had the place to ourselves. No crowds, no waiting—just time to explore, be creative, and let these two enjoy the moment together.

From the start, these two were so easy to photograph. They have that natural, comfortable connection that doesn’t need much direction. We laughed and had a fun time with the result of images that feel real instead of posed.

The location itself gave us so much to play with. This massive structure, with the textures of the concrete and steel, and those towering walls created such a cool contrast to the warmth between them.

But what makes this location even more meaningful is its history. The Lift Lock isn’t just a cool backdrop—it’s actually one of the most impressive pieces of engineering in Canada. Built in 1904 as part of the Trent–Severn Waterway, it was designed to help boats travel between Lake Ontario and Georgian Bay. At the time, it was considered groundbreaking—using a hydraulic lift system instead of traditional lock gates.
Even now, it’s still one of the highest hydraulic lift locks in the world, lifting boats nearly 20 metres straight up or down. Standing there during the session, you really feel the scale of it. It’s not just tall—it’s massive in a way that photos barely capture.

And honestly, that’s what made this session stand out—it had a bit of everything. Big, dramatic backdrops mixed with quiet, in-between moments. It felt adventurous without trying too hard.

Jessica and Geoff were up for it all—climbing stairs, exploring corners, trusting the process—and it paid off. These are the kinds of sessions that remind me why I love what I do. When you’ve got a great couple and a unique location, everything just comes together.

What a season! Our fall family sessions were an absolute delight — bright sunny days, crisp air, and those perfect golden-hour evenings that make every smile glow. Families came out to our property and we had so much fun capturing relaxed, joyful moments among the colourful trees and warm autumn light.

The small pumpkin patch was a huge hit. Kids ran between pumpkins, picked the perfect one to take home, and posed with big grins. Parents loved the candid moments — leaf-tossing, piggyback rides, and the quiet, sweet snuggles that make for timeless portraits. The pumpkins added that playful, seasonal touch that made each session feel cozy and unique.

We include lots of props — hay bales, scarves, blankets, crates, and little details that helped families relax and get creative. Those props gave us quick, fun setups for a range of looks: casual candid shots, classic posed family portraits, and the silly, in-between frames that always end up being favourites.

Our property — with its large pond and a backdrop of vibrant fall foliage — made a beautiful setting. The colours this year were stunning and added instant warmth to every image. Whether families wanted water reflections, tree-lined portraits, or pumpkin-patch play, we had options that fit everyone’s style.

As photographers, the best part was watching families enjoy themselves. Laughter, hugs, and the little spontaneous moments are what we live for — those are the photos that become keepsakes. We left each session with our cards full of smiles and hearts full of memories.
